1. Café Gerloczy. Kind of a French-style place, in Gerloczy utca near Deák Ter, Budapest's most central square. Excellent Hungarian and International food, and nice service. Equally magnificent for coffee and cakes during the day.
2. Budapest's famous Gerbeaud Café, on Vörösmárty Tér. Cakes, and more cakes. Also a small high-end restaurant called Onyx which I never tried.
3. Café Kör. A legend with the Budapest ex-pat community and locals too. Cozy and great food and wine, excellent service. On Sas utca, next to the square in front of the Basilica cathedral.
4. The Hungarian parliament.
5. LáncHíd ('the Chain Bridge'), with the Basilica behind it.
6. Walk across the Chain Bridge and take the funicular railway up to the Buda Castle. Half-price coming down !
7. 'Tram 2' runs along the Danube bank on the Pest side, reaching the Parliament and Margit Bridge (a short walk then to the pleasant Margit Island, with public swimming pools, and good for jogging or lunch). The other way you reach Freedom ('Szabadság') bridge, which you cross to reach Gellert Hotel, with Budapest's most famous thermal baths.
You can access Budapest via the international airport, Ferihegy, or via the three international train stations in Budapest city centre, Nyugati, Deli and Keleti. We can arrange tourist activities, sightseeing, opera tickets, flights, airport transfer, bicycle rental - just tell us what you need and we can probably get it!
In any of these apartment buildings, you are 50 metres from a grocery store. The most central metro station of Budapest, Deak Ter (the crossover point of the three lines) is a five minute walk.
Secure parking is available (at 10 euro per day).
We can also arrange Budapest airport transfers (25 euro total, each-way).
8. Budapest's Millenium Metro ('Metro 1'), runs from Vörösmáty Tér in the centre of Pest (next to Váci utca), to the Opera, Heroes Square and Szechenyi baths. But worth the trip all on its own.
9. 'BOB', an up-market bar and restaurant in St Istvan Ter, in front of the Basilica.
10. 'Tom George', another high-end Budapest restaurant with a cocktail bar, at the corner of Oktober 6 utca and Zrinyi utca.
